Disruptive technologies are products and services that overtake the existing dominant technology or product in the market by filling a need the other technology can't, such as providing a new capability or a lower price point. (Think of what digital cameras have done to the photographic film industry.) To prevent a disruptive technology from taking your business down, take a wide view of your industry, network with players within and around your market, and be on the lookout for technologies that may affect the way you do business. Also, strive to continuously improve your project and leave little room for someone else to step in and fill a void.
