Now from the wild western frontier of San Francisco, it’s the Shootout of the Smartphones. Which will be faster in sending e-mail, downloading spreadsheets, and accessing the web? The veteran Trio, the addictive Blackberry or the fancy new Apple iPhone? Meet Steve “Stampede” Williams, Apple aficionado and tech trainer.
So I’m here with my iPhone today. I think it’s going to show up the Blackberry and Trio.
Meet Dan “Thumbslinger” Silmar, buddy to the Blackberry and marketing executive.
This Blackberry Pearl is going to prove that once for all what the best business PDA is. But what can I say? I love the Pearl. It’s just so stylish.
Meet Jim “Cowpoke” Cook, Trio lover and finance wizard.
All right, you’ve seen the rest, now hopefully you’re going to see the best. We’re going for the iPhones here so let’s get into the shootout and figure out who’s number one.
Shootout number one. Who can download Yahoo’s homepage faster? Ready, set, draw! Dan and his Blackberry arrive quick.
I’m going to go through the Blackberry browser, go to Yahoo.com and I just need to type it into the search box.
But Jim’s Trio isn’t far behind.
What’s beneficial about the Trio is when you type in Yahoo.com or Google, those companies have special mobile applications and because it recognized it was a Trio, it downloads a much faster page.
It’s down to the Trio and the iPhone with Blackberry left in the dust.
iPhone has found the page but waiting for the images. Trio is still looking. Where’s the page?
But it’s actually receiving now.
Done.
The winner? iPhone. Who can type and send an email quicker? Not just any e-mail but an e-mail that says, “These are not the droids that you are looking for.”
These are not the droids you are looking for.
And they’re off!
So I simply hit the e-mail button, just one button. It gets right into my e-mail.
Thumbslinger Silmar is in rare form. He’s composing his message.
I’m going into my e-mail. I’m composing a message.
I take a gander at Steve’s nimble finger work. Oh no! Dan’s forgotten the message?
What was it again? Please?
Remember the wire.
Oh…that one? All right, back space a little bit. You are looking for…
The winner? Jim “Cowpoke Cook” and his trusty Trio.
It could have been faster.
Now, for the toughest challenge of all. Download an Excel spreadsheet and find out the total three-year cost. Look and marvel at Jim’s one-handed technique. Not to be outdone as Steve comes on strong. Expanding his screen with a little thumb and index action. But wait! Dan’s thumb is faster. He has the spreadsheet open. Steve’s quicker. He’s looking at his spreadsheet on his iPhone. Where’s the number? He’s looking for the number.
I’ve never opened a spreadsheet on my iPhone before so I’m curious. Company two to three-year cost? It’s $25,075.70.
And there you have it. The AllBusiness Shootout of the Smartphones and the undisputed winner is the Apple iPhone.
