From the chair

To Our Members:

Very soon you will receive a ballot to elect officers for SIGNS. I have served as Chair since 1993. It's time to let someone else take control and bring new energy and ideas to further develop your SIG. Therefore, I am not a candidate for re-election.

It has been my privilege to serve as SIGMIS Chair. During my tenure, SIGMIS has made several meaningful associations, including sponsoring the Conference on Information and Knowledge Management, the International Conference on Information Systems' Doctoral Best Paper Award, and doctoral consortia at both the European Conference on Information Systems and the Pacific Asia Conference on Information Systems.

Personally, the most memorable and rewarding accomplishment of my tenure was to have nominated, supported, and realized the induction of both Dan Cougar and Gordon Davis as ACM Fellows.

Any successes during my administration are attributable to the hard work of others. It is impossible to thank all those who contributed, but I would like to recognize a few people who have worked for you during most of decade of the nineties. Those most notable include Janice Sipior, Donna Baglio, Mark Keil, Eph McLean, Detmar Strub, and, most recently, Laurie Schatzberg. These people actually did and are doing the work. "Thank you" is not enough, but it's all I have to offer.

I'd like to leave you with a statement that I have found to be both personally and professionally meaningful. "To live is to change and to be perfect is to have changed often" (Cardinal John Henry Newman, circa 1830). Self-development and improvement, by definition, require change. I have tried to put these words into action. My hope for each of you is that all your change will be a peaceful move toward perfection.
