New integrated system speeds up insulated floor slab construction
Thursday, September 1 2005
The recent legislation for Part L compliance has resulted in increasing work for companies to insulate floor slabs, both ground bearing and suspended. This usually takes the form of laying a carpet of polystyrene or foam heat loss barrier either above or below the slab and involves additional work in cutting and placing the insulating layer.
Thermaflor is a product that has just been released to the market and acts as formwork for suspended slabs. Once its work has been done as a support for the concrete it remains in place as a fully compliant Part L thermal barrier. The design had several features to make it very versatile. The metre square units stand on nine 100mm-high legs, which gives an easy levelling facility on any imperfections on the previously levelled oversite on which it sits. This also provides sufficient ground clearance for services to pass through. The top face of the units are lapped and ledged which means that the units lock together when laid, affording a very solid base on which to walk and work when preparing the reinforcement for the concrete.
