Charlotte, N.C., Area Hits Economic Grand Slam as Host to Girls Softball Event.

Jul. 21--More than 30,000 players and visitors flocked to the Charlotte area Saturday for the start of the National Softball Association's 2003 Class A Youth Girls Fastpitch World Series.
Participants from 425 teams representing more than 20 states arrived Saturday, filling hotel rooms from Charlotte to Rock Hill.
Organizers say the tournament will pump about $15.6 million into the local economy.
