In many quarters, the horrors of September 11 tamed one of society's wildest breeds: sports fans. After pro football and baseball postponed several days' worth of games, in many parts of the country, usually rabid fans returned respectful and chastened. That respite is now over, experts say, as depicted dramatically in two recent incidents: brawls in the stands at a Washington Redskins game, causing stadium police to use pepper spray, which wafted on the field and sickened some players; and a father-and-son on-field attack of a Kansas City Royals first base coach.
