BECKLEY - Classic cars and street rods will be a common sight on the streets of Beckley the weekend of July 18.
The fifth annual Friends of Coal Auto Fair is scheduled for July 18-20 at the YMCA Youth Sports Complex, according to the event's Web site. The event will feature hot rods, customized autos, classic rides, muscle cars, motorcycles and trucks.
This year's event also will feature a concert with Randy Travis and Taylor Made July 19. Former Marshall University coach Bob Pruett and former West Virginia University coach Don Nehlen are scheduled to make guest appearances. Nehlen, however, recently had open-heart surgery.
Also scheduled to appear at this year's fair are Jeremy Starks of the BassMaster Elite Series and the U.S. Army's Golden Knights parachute team.
The Beckley-Raleigh County YMCA Board of Directors started the auto fair in 2004 as a way to help pay for operating the Paul Cline Memorial Youth Complex, according to the fair's Web site. The $ 5 million complex has eight full-size soccer fields with lighting and scoreboards. It also has locker rooms, a concession stand, a one-mile walking trail, children's playground and other features.
