An Innovative Business Idea-Mobile Hair Salon

Wednesday, November 15 2006

I always love stories about women who have fantastic ideas in the business world and then go out and put them to work. It is great to come up with a fantastic idea, but it is even greater to actually see that idea through, particularly when the end result is a business that begins to flourish.

This morning I wanted to share a story about a lady in Silicon Valley who is, as the article says, taking her mobile hair salon into the geeks!

What a great idea! Dena Kaufel drives her Winnebagos into the parking lots of several top companies, including Yahoo, and from there she and her staff can cut the hair of people who don´t have time to stop at a salon for a haircut.

How wonderful would it be if this option were offered at other businesses around the country? For instance, when I taught school it was difficult for those with children to get finished, wrap up the day after meetings, and then get to the babysitter´s in time without being charged extra money. Getting a haircut? Almost impossible unless you stopped on the weekends, when you really want to be spending time with your family after working all week.

Teachers remain on the premises all day since lunches are normally never longer than forty minutes, so why not send a mobile salon to schools in the area? And what about doctors and nurses and medical staff? They work around the clock. My family has several accountants, all of whom work long hours and rarely get out for lunch, much less necessary appointments.

Of course there might be scheduling logistics for some who are on call, but I´m sure there are ways for them to work around that.
