Virtual Assistant Staffing Agencies for a Home Business

Friday, September 7 2007

In a home based business, what do you do when you need help? After all, you just can't do everything. You could hire someone as an employee or you could use a contractor from a Virtual Assistant staffing agency. Unlike hiring someone as an employee, using a contractor means you won't have to pay them benefits or worry about employment taxes and such. Also you probably don't have a place to accommodate a permanent employee in your home office. A Virtual Assistant staffing agency will take care of both of these issues because the virtual assistants are probably also working from their home!

An example of a Virtual Assistant staffing agency is Team Double-Click. A big difference between Virtual Assistant staffing agencies and standard staffing agencies (such as Kelly Services) is that the Virtual Assistants are not employees of the company: they are independent business owners working under a contract arrangement with the company. The Virtual Assistant staffing agency pays their contractors and you pay the Virtual Assistant staffing agency.

Virtual agencies make finding help very easy because they eliminate the guesswork of searching online to find contractors. The contractors working for agencies like Team Double-Click are already pre-qualified. When you go through a site such as Elance or Get a Freelancer, you must do the work of weeding through the prospective Virtual Assistants yourself. Furthermore, virtual agencies will attempt to fit each client with an virtual assistant who will likely be a good match. In addition to just qualifications, they will look at things such as personality type, work style, and hours of availability.

So if you need help with something like Accounting, Bookkeeping, Marketing or any number of other things - try a Virtual Agency to fill that need.

Part of the problem with virtual staffing agencies is that they are like Kelly Services, i.e., the remote worker is not your employee. The staffing agency says the remote workers are independent contractors; however, they are treated like employees to the staffing agency. The IRS will get wind of this practice eventually and what small business owner wants to become part of an IRS investigation? The best way for small business owners to contract with a professional Virtual Assistant is to consult directly with a few VAs to see for themselves which one is the best fit. Most professional VAs offer this type of consultation at no charge to the SBO. If you are a small business owner, I urge you to check the Virtual Assistance Chamber of Commerce where you'll find hundreds of true, professional Virtual Assistants. Each member is carefully vetted to be sure that he/she is a legitimate owner of a Virtual Assistance practice and each member adheres to the highest standard of ethics. You can visit the VACOC at http://virtualassistantnetworking.com.

Virtual Assistant Staffing Agencies for a Home Business
How can anyone claim to know exactly how all virtual staffing agencies operate? It is ridiculous to think that virtual staffers aren't highly aware of the restrictions the IRS puts on working with subcontractors. This sounds like an attack on the agencies who are fairly new to the industry and dramatically increasing the competitiveness of the field. Competition is a good thing. It makes all VAs to put more value into their services in an effort to stay on top. Virtual staffing agencies are here to say. They fill a need within the industry--as many some small business owners don't want the hassle of finding and hiring VAs on their own--let alone building entire virtual support teams. Virtual Assistant Staffing Agencies for a Home Business
Just as in politics, when companies begin to bad mouth other companies it's usually because they feel their business is being threatened. And in this case, the VACOC business is. Virtual staffing agencies are here to stay. But, I question whether VA's operating independently will be around in the long-term. As the VA industry continues to explode there will be very few business executives and entrepreneurs willing to spend the time to shift through thousands of VA?s to contract with. Nor will they find the various structures and styles of each new VA they contract an inviting task to adjust to. Virtual staffing agencies save companies time and money in the search process and they provide a comforting level of structure. Additionally, the VA?s working for them are no less an independent contractor than any other VA. They do, however, benefit from a virtual staffing agency working on their behalf to provide work. So, I urge each person reading any comments that bash virtual staffing agencies or virtual staffing teams to really question the motives (and integrity) of that company or association. The fact that they are sticking their nose into other people?s business is a pathetic attempt to save theirs. I?ve teamed up with a virtual staffing agency (www.TheVirtualProfessionals.com) and I absolutely love it!
