So as a mother, you already have absolutely no privacy and we know this. You can’t even go in to take a shower without your 3-year-old walking in and talking to you. However, if you’re working from home, privacy is essential and you’re going to need to set up some strategies so that you can have some privacy when you’re working from home.
First of all, find a space in your house that you can set up shop where not everybody is going to be walking through all hours of the day. The living room is not a good place to set up your office because somebody is probably always going to be sitting in your living room.
Secondly, close the door when you’re working. One mother wrote in that she has an excellent strategy in place for when she’s working. She has a red stop sign and a green go sign. If the red stop sign is on the doorknob and the door is closed, the children are not to bother her. And this ensures that she has privacy when she’s talking on the phone or she’s sitting down doing something that she really needs to concentrate on.
Also, don’t work anywhere other than your office space. For instance, don’t carry your paperwork to the kitchen table and try to take care of a few things at the end of the day. You’re going to be distracted, you’re not going to get anything done and you’re not going to have any privacy.
Also, get a dedicated phone line for your office. The last thing you need is to be right in the middle of something and have the personal phone ring and have a call come in for your teenager, for instance.
So as you set up your home-based business, make sure you have the privacy you need to get the job done.
