KATHY MURDOCK: So you want to start a home-based business because you want to make millions, and that's a great goal. But the reality of it is, it's probably not going to happen overnight. There are many things that go into starting a business, and you have to think about these before you open the doors. First of all, licensing requires money. You have to have a license from the county in which you live, and also possibly from the state. Secondly, you're going to need to market and advertise, if you want to have customers to make that millions. So you have to put some money out there upfront. Thirdly, supplies. You need pens, paper, a computer. Supplies might range from 50 cents to hundreds of dollars, but you need those before you can launch your business. Also, a website. How are you going to get the word out? Many people shop online, so if you're offering services or products, you're probably going to want to start a website, and that can run you several hundred dollars. So while you may make millions one day, make sure that in the meantime you have some money in the bank to fund your business.
