I blog a lot about eBay businesses and drop ship business where products are sold as a home-based business. But there are plenty of good home-business opportunities that involve providing services with no real physical product. Service-based home businesses can includes lots of things - consulting, cleaning services, pet-care services, private investigation service and so on. How do you tell if a service based business is going to work? First of all, it should be something you enjoy doing. It will difficult to get passionate about a service business if you don't enjoy performing the service. That aside, what about the workflow? The workflow in a business is the general set of tasks that must be done to accomplish a job. In the house cleaning business, it would be the set of tasks it would take to clean someone's house. In the private investigation business, it would the general procedures it would take to solve a case. Try to get a feel for the workflow well ahead of time. It might be too time consuming or it might be too much for you alone and you may need help. Be sure to analyze the workflow in service business. If you end up spending too much time for too little money, the business many not be feasible.
