3 Yakima Women Building Businesses from Home

Wednesday, November 9 2005

Yakima is a place about 150 miles southeast of Seattle (where I am), and I didn't think there was much there beyond the apple orchards and vineyards. Just thought of it as a small community where there is significantly less rain that Seattle. Apparently there are trend setting home-based businesses there too.

Lee Denise Goll creates and sells home-made blankets and quilts. Her website is www.snugglerscove.com. She's been making these "snuggly" custom-made creations for quite some time, but has only recently extended the reach of her business to the web.

Ann Bray is a proponent of enviro-friendly cloth diapers. When she first started her business, she complained of not being able to find cloth diapers in Yakima and said that 'if I wanted to buy diapers, I had to go online'. So she started her own Cloth Diaper website - www.babyclothbottoms.com - where she sells cloth diaper and baby products and has lots of information on why they should be used instead of the disposable varieties.

Alyssa Sali is a proponent of 'attachment parenting' and her home-based business is part of a network marketing company. She has a website which has information on a product line called Mother of Eden, centered around attachment parenting.

According to the National Association for the Self-employed, there are about 4.2 million home-based businesses which is up 23% from just a decade ago. In addition, according to a 2004 Bureau of Labor Statistics survey, about two thirds of those businesses are owned by women.

I blogged a while ago that Home-Based Businesses are not on Easy Street. They take planning, coordinating, marketing, and hard work just like any business. It's always good to profile actual working home-based businesses such as the ones run by these 3 women. These kinds of businesses show us that a 'home-based business' is not just a catch phrase.

In the traditional form of business with low capital requirements, doing business from Home is the best way. In addition to the business from home if the owner like Mr.Chirag Jain of Curio Trend Exports makes his company website just for info, may also help in fetching new business. I have recently done the project of simple information website i.e. www.curiotrends.com which is basically containing some sample photos of products, and an application form. Soon we will make this website a CurioCity For Fashion! This small propreitory firm deals deals in High Fashion Products like Silver & Gem Stone Jewelry, & other Indian Ethnic Style Silver Articles & Ornaments. I hope it works and he is my closest friend since our childhood. My best wishes stays with him ...
