Two scholarships, the UPS Scholarship for Female Students and the UPS Scholarship for Minority Students, are awarded annually to undergraduates pursuing industrial engineering degrees at accredited schools in the United States, Mexico, or Canada.
The Excellence Award for Minority Achievement is presented to organizations, companies, and individuals that have made concentrated efforts to facilitate the advancement of women, minorities, and the disabled in the field of industrial engineering. Up to three awards may be presented in a year, one each to companies with more than 500 employees, less than 500 employees, and individuals.
O'Dwyer, who also presented the check on behalf of UPS last year, noted that UPS would like to improve the tracking of scholarship winners: "The only thing [we] might try to do differently is to make sure that there's more follow-up with the people that actually get the scholarships, to ... maybe look to see if there's an opportunity for them to join us at UPS.
"We always say, and it's a cliche at times, that our biggest strength is our people. We truly do believe that. We just wanted to make sure we took the time to afford somebody the opportunity now to continue their education," O'Dwyer said.
