Affymetrix recorded second quarter 2002 revenues of $70.7 million, a 42.6% increase from the second quarter of 2001. Excluding $5.6 million in sales to Perlegen Sciences, revenues increased 40.0% to $58.6 million. Product revenues were driven by the shipment of 97,000 arrays during the quarter.
Beckman Coulter's second quarter 2002 sales for Life Science Research grew 0.1% to $112.1 million. Within the segment, Robotic Automation and Genetic Analysis sales increased 15% to $43.7 million. Centrifuge and Analytical System sales declined 7.6% to $68.4 million. Operating income increased 5.3% to $67.8 million. For the third quarter, Beckman Coulter expects total company revenue to increase 10%.
Biacore sales for the second quarter of 2002 rose 26.3% to SEK 154.6 million ($15.4 million = SEK 10.02 = $1) from SEK 122.4 million ($11.7 million = SEK 10.45 = $1) in the same quarter of 2001. Operating profits reached SEK 32.2 million ($3.2 million = SEK 10.02 = $1), a 847.1% increase from a year ago. Sales to Europe declined 8.3%, while sales to Asia-Pacific and the Americas increased 33.7% and 48.0%, respectively.
Bio-Rad Laboratories achieved sales of $215.0 million for the second quarter of 2002, up 9.9% year over year. Life Science sales rose 14.8%, and Clinical Diagnostic sales rose 9%.
Bruker AXS posted second quarter 2002 revenues of $24.0 million, up 19.0% year over year. Operating profits dropped 84.8% to $498.6 million. R&D increased 46.4% to $2.8 million. Bruker AXS forecasts 2002 sales growth of over 20% to $99-$101 million.

Harvard Bioscience reported second quarter 2002 revenues of $13.7 million, up 38.0% from the same quarter of 2001. Operating profits increased 76.1% to $2.1 million.
Mettler-Toledo's second quarter 2002 sales reached $296.5 million, 6.2% higher than second quarter 2001 sales. Profits from operations increased 1.5% to $41.0 million. In the second quarter, the company took a pre-tax restructuring charge of $28.7 million.
Molecular Devices ended the second quarter of 2002 with revenues of $25.4 million, 6.1% more than the $24.0 million reported for the same quarter of 2001. Operating profits declined 18.6% to $2.2 million. Third quarter 2002 revenues are expected to range from $26-$28 million, with 2002 revenues are forecasted at $104-$108 million. Fiscal 2003 revenues are forecasted at $120-$130 million.
Qiagen posted a 10.1% increase in sales to $72.7 million in the second quarter of 2002, from $66.0 million a year ago. Operating income dropped 37.0% to $9.4 million. Sales of separation, purification and handling consumables increased 20%.
Veeco Instruments posted a 31.0% decline in revenues for the second quarter of 2002 .to $77.3 million Operating profits were $2.1 million for the second quarter, down 87.1%.
