Too Late, Too True

[Re: Bush's Manufacturing Plan: Too Little Too Late, Page 7, October 2003] Too little and too late for our company. Fibre Form Corp., a loudspeaker component manufacturer in business from 1938 that since the 1970s had successfully focused on the second-tier automotive market,

will be throwing in the towel at the end of October 2003.

The workers themselves are hipper to what's going on in the world than are our so-called government "leaders." The former have witnessed the evaporation of hundreds of thousands of manufacturing-related jobs in this state as a result of prevailing mandates in corporate boardrooms to "build it in China or die." Unlike the politicians, they understand that the health of our economy grows out of relationships among its different parts, including a viable manufacturing sector. As service/support personnel begin to see their jobs exported to low-wage countries, their voices will add to a growing crescendo of displaced American wage earners telling Washington to "get a clue or get out!"
