Mar. 9--MATAMOROS, Mexico --Tourist industry leaders and city officials point to tightened border security and a weakening U.S. economy for an estimated 50-percent drop over the last two years in business dependent on cross-border traffic.

They are banking on a steady stream of American students for a fiscal rebound, starting this week.

Matamoros business owners, expect Spring Break to generate $8 to 10 million to the city's economy.
