Funds sought for educators trip

WILMINGTON -- Deerfield Valley Starting Points (DVSP) is a non-profit group of early childhood educators that consists of family child care and center-based providers in Wilmington, Dover and other surrounding towns.

The group is raising money so that some of them can attend the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), annual conference and expo being held in Washington, D.C.

Anyone who would like to make a tax-deductible donation can make checks payable to DVSP and mail them to DVSP, c/o Tasha Tobey-Pike, 408 Higley Hill Road, Wilmington, VT 05363.

Edward Jones participates in drive

BRATTLEBORO -- The four Brattleboro Edward Jones financial advisors are supporting school supplies donation campaign by using their branch offices as drop-off locations for a school supplies drive.

Local residents and businesses may help those less fortunate in the community by bringing in items to the Edward Jones branch offices during regular business in September.

The branch addresses are: Kathleen Markiewicz, 275 Western Ave., 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Joeseph LoMonaco, 51 Main St., 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Ana Saavedra 225, Main St., Suite 1, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Philip George on the first floor of the Vermont Building on Putney Road, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The items needed for the school supply drive include pencils, pens, crayons, erasers, markers, highlighters, notebook paper, poster board, gluesticks and paints.

New Grafton cheese wins awards

GRAFTON -- Grafton Village Cheese was awarded a blue ribbon for its Grafton Duet cheese at the 25th Annual American Cheese Society Judging and Competition earlier this month. Results were announced at the Hilton Austin, Texas, site of this year s annual conference.

This is the second award Grafton Duet has taken home this summer, after winning a silver "sofi" award at the 2009 National Association for the Specialty Food Trade judging competition in New York City in July.

Grafton Duet is made of two layers of Grafton premium cheddar and one layer of St. Pete s blue cheese made by Faribault Dairy in Minnesota.

At the NASFT Fancy Food Show in New York City, Grafton s Classic Reserve also won a silver "sofi" in the Classic category.

Financial planner earns top designation

Guilford man joins Earth Turbines
