Regarding "Take Off That Mask," Daniel Gordis's letter to Jill, the rabbinical student (Midstream, May/June 2003), I frankly found his line of reasoning rather patronizing. As far as I can tell, he is essentially saying that if you don't live on the Israeli front line, you don't really "love" Israel enough to be able to speak out against what the government allows under the rubric of "defense."
