Description: Individuals and consumer, environmental, farming, health, labor, and church organizations concerned with pesticide hazards and safety. Seeks to advance national and international awareness of public health, environmental, and economic problems caused by pesticides; to protect individuals exposed to pesticides. Works to improve legislation, regulation, and enforcement affecting pesticide use and to stress a systematic approach emphasizing preventive public health measures to control pesticides from production through use and disposal. Promotes alternatives to pesticide use such as integrated pest management, which ensures reduced soil and water contamination and lower residues in food. Stresses that these alternatives will reduce environmental damage, ease economic burdens, and improve the general health of the public. Collects and disseminates information and monitors governmental activities.
