Made possible by a grant from Intertec Publishing, a Primedia Co., the ABP Entertainment Forum will feature a panel of leading journalists who cover the industry. Scheduled to participate are Anita M. Busch, editor of The Hollywood Reporter; Cathy Booth, Los Angeles bureau chief for Time magazine; Corie
Brown, entertainment editor for the Los Angeles Times' financial section; Nancy Graham, senior editor and Insider columnist for People magazine; Elizabeth Guider, executive editor of Variety; Cable Neuhaus, Los Angeles bureau chief for Entertainment Weekly; and Bernard Weinraub, entertainment columnist for the New York Times.
The panelists will discuss questions relevant to the industry, including: How does the media cover entertainment? Are deals made for coverage? Are stories pulled because of advertising pressure? And does non-mainstream entertainment have any chance of being covered? Also participating will be moderator Marty Kaplan, associate dean of programs and planning at USC; John Holden, vp media services of ABP; and Robert J. Dowling, editor-in-chief and publisher of The Hollywood Reporter and chair of the ABP Editorial Committee.
"Today, the responsibility for running the industry is even more profound than ever -- the changes we're facing are truly daunting," Dowling said. "As industry veterans, it is our job to help the next generation of journalists and news professionals get into the game. I'm delighted to be a part of the ABP's efforts to provide opportunities for students to interact with some of the top industry leaders of our time."
Hosted by ABP academic member universities, the University Forum panel discussions are free to ABP members, students and faculty. The Forums bring together leading business-to-business experts who share their work experiences and offer career options and advice to the next generation of publishers, editors, writers and magazine owners.
Entertainment Forum attendees can request confirmed seating by phone (at (213) 740-5658) or e-mail (uscevent@usc.edu). The event will be Webcast in real video and available at www.usc.edu/dept/annenberg. Details: Marie Fowler at (212) 661-6360, Ext. 3322.
