British actress Kate Beckinsale ("Cold Comfort Farm") is in final negotiations to star with Claire Danes in "Brokedown Palace," Fox 2000's contemporary drama set in Southeast Asia.
The film, being produced by Adam Fields, is about two young women who take a vacation
to Asia, are arrested for smuggling and sentenced to prison for 33 years.
Jonathan Kaplan ("The Accused," "Unlawful Entry") is set to direct the film. Written by David Arata, based on a story he conceived with Fields, the movie is expected to start shooting in Asia in November. Alex Gartner is the Fox executive supervising the project.
Beckinsale, who is represented by Jane Brand and Tracy Brennan at ICM, is shooting director Whit Stillman's 1970s romantic comedy "The Last Days of Disco" with Chris Eigeman, Jennifer Beals and Robert Sean Leonard.
