Robert Sharenow has been named head of nonfiction and alternative programming at A&E, where he will oversee the nonfiction programming and development teams.

In his new role as senior vp nonfiction and alternative programming, Sharenow also will be responsible for the development and creation

of A&E's nonfiction programming, including the network's real-life series, justice franchises, A&E IndieFilms, lifestyle block, documentary series and specials.

Sharenow replaces Nancy Dubuc, A&E's former senior vp nonfiction programming and new-media content, who recently was named executive vp and general manager of sister network the History Channel (HR 12/12).

Sharenow, who joined A&E in March 2003, most recently was vp nonfiction and alternative programming. He has served as executive producer on several A&E series, including "Dog the Bounty Hunter," "Criss Angel Mindfreak," "King of Cars," "Driving Force" and "Gene Simmons Family Jewels." He also developed the series "Growing Up Gotti" and "Intervention," among others.

Sharenow will report to A&E executive vp and general manager Bob DeBitetto.

"Rob is an innovative programmer who has been responsible for some of the network's most successful series," DeBitetto said. "He is expert at developing and producing buzzworthy shows that stand out from the pack, deliver with advertisers and connect with our audience."

Before joining A&E, Sharenow was executive producer of the History Channel series "This Week in History." He also co-created and launched the History series "Extreme History With Roger Daltrey."
