Cbs, Fox Flesh Out Five Pilot Casts

David E. Kelley has enlisted Oscar-nominated actresses Mare Winningham and Elizabeth McGovern for his CBS drama series "The Brotherhood of Poland, N.H." And Kathryn Morris has been tapped to star in Jerry Bruckheimer and Meredith Stiehm's untitled drama pilot for CBS, and Christopher McDonald has signed

to play Molly Shannon's husband in the Fox comedy pilot "Cracking Up."

In other CBS pilot casting news, Hector Elizondo and Nestor Carbonell have joined the cast of the drama "Century City," and "Undeclared" star Jay Baruchel has been cast in the comedy "The Stones."

"Brotherhood," from 20th Century Fox TV and David E. Kelley Prods., centers on three brothers in the fictional hamlet of Poland. Randy Quaid and John Carroll Lynch already have been cast as two of the brothers. Winningham will play Quaid's wife, and McGovern will play the wife of Lynch's character.

Winningham was nominated for an Oscar for 1995's "Georgia" and won Emmys in 1998 and 1980, respectively, for the telefilms "George Wallace" and "Amber Waves." She is repped by IFA Talent Agency.

McGovern was Oscar-nominated for Milos Forman's 1981 drama "Ragtime." Her feature credits also include 1984's "Once Upon a Time in America" and 1997's "The Wings of the Dove."

The untitled Bruckheimer/Stiehm project from Warner Bros. TV, Bruckheimer TV and CBS Prods. — previously titled "Cold Cases" — centers on a female homicide detective (Morris) who works on cold cases. Morris most recently has played Tom Cruise's estranged wife in Steven Spielberg's "Minority Report" and toplined John Woo's short BMW Internet film "Hostage," both 2002 releases. Among previous projects, she appeared in Rod Lurie's 2000 feature "The Contender." Morris, who next appears in the Dimension thriller "Mindhunters" opposite Val Kilmer and Christian Slater, is repped by Endeavor, Mosaic's Dave Fleming and attorney Jason Sloan.

"Cracking Up," from 20th Century Fox TV and Brad Grey TV, centers on a psychology graduate student who moves into the guest house of a nutty Beverly Hills couple (Shannon and McDonald). McDonald's feature credits include 1996's "Happy Gilmore," 1994's "Quiz Show" and, most recently, last year's "Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams"; his series credits include "Family Law" and "Veronica's Closet." He is repped by WMA.

"Century City," from Universal Network TV, is a legal drama set in 2053. Elizondo will play the elder statesman of the law firm at the show's center. Carbonell will play the firm's newest partner, a former California governor. In addition, David Paymer has signed to guest-star in the pilot as the father of a dying 8-year-old boy who attempts to save him through cloning.

Elizondo won an Emmy in 1997 for his role on the CBS medical drama "Chicago Hope." His credits also include the 2001 features "The Princess Diaries" and "Tortilla Soup" and the new ABC midseason series "Miracles." He is repped by WMA and manager Mark Teitelbaum.

Carbonell's credits include the 2002 HBO telefilm "The Laramie Project" and the series "Suddenly Susan" and "The Tick." He is repped by Paradigm.

"Stones," from Warner Bros. TV and KoMut Entertainment, centers on a twentysomething brother (Baruchel) and sister who cope with their parents' decision to get a divorce. Baruchel's credits also include the 2000 feature "Almost Famous." The actor, who next appears in the feature "Nemesis Game," is repped by CAA and manager Debbie Segal.
