Joseph Farrell and Catherine Paura, founders of the market research firm National Research Group, are getting into the producing game by launching their FP Ventures banner with a multiyear motion picture production deal with Walt Disney Studios. Under the terms of the unusual deal, Farrell and Paura
will also counsel Disney executives on market planning worldwide and will continue to serve as consultants to NRG's other studio clients.
"I can't think of a more dynamic duo than Farrell and Paura," Disney chairman Richard Cook said. "Their years at NRG have certainly given them a head start — they know as well as anyone what makes movies work. They are creative and have their fingers on the pulse of the marketplace; that experience will be invaluable to us. In addition, they have been incredible friends throughout the years, and we are lucky to have them on board."
Added Disney production president Nina Jacobson: "Farrell and Paura have always had a great movie sense, and now we're thrilled to be putting them in the producer's seat. Their vast experience puts them immediately at the top of the game; they will be extremely valuable members of the team."
Farrell and Paura stepped down from their chairmanships at NRG last year but continue to serve as consultants to NRG's studio clients as the company transitions to be part of the Nielsen Entertainment. They founded the company 25 years ago.
Farrell and Paura are repped by attorney Skip Brittenham.
NRG and Nielsen Entertainment are owned by The Hollywood Reporter's parent, Netherlands-based VNU.
