No plain 'Jane': Redo eyes Diaz

Cameron Diaz could find herself having some fun with Jim Carrey. No, not that kind of fun. Although no offer is yet on the table and serious discussions have therefore not begun, Diaz has vaulted to the top of the list under consideration

to star opposite Carrey in the title roles of Columbia Pictures' "Fun With Dick and Jane." If Diaz sparks to the idea, she could find herself playing half of an economically distressed married couple that resort to a life of crime in the remake of the 1977 comedy that starred George Segal and Jane Fonda. Barry Sonnenfeld is on tap to direct the project, which Brian Grazer will produce. Diaz is, of course, no stranger to Columbia, which produced her next feature, "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle," which Sony releases June 27. Nor is she a stranger to Carrey, as she first made her mark in Carrey's 1994 feature "The Mask." (Zorianna Kit and Gregg Kilday)

Lambert feels ax

Staff cuts continued at MCA Records on Tuesday: In a surprise move, senior vp promotion Craig Lambert was let go. The restructuring is part of MCA Records' merger into Geffen Records. Lambert had been named interim chief of MCA when president Jay Boberg left the company in January. Sources indicated that Lambert's exit is partially due to the new regime, which will be helmed by Geffen Records president Jordan Shur, who is expected to bring in his own team. A spokeswoman for Interscope Geffen A&M declined to comment. MCA Records will be officially renamed Geffen Records next week. (Tamara Conniff)

Brother Haley gone

"The Brotherhood of Poland, N.H." has lost one of its brothers. Actor-comedian Brian Haley, who played Waylon, one of the three adult siblings in the center of David E. Kelley's dramedy pilot for CBS, has been let go. The role opposite Randy Quaid and John Carroll Lynch, who play the other two brothers in the fall series from David E. Kelley Prods. and 20th Century Fox TV, is being recast. Waylon, which was the last major role on "Brotherhood" to be cast this spring, is now being "reconceived," Kelley said in a statement. "Brian's work was exceptional in the pilot, and we hope to be able to bring him back in another role at another time in the future," he said. (Nellie Andreeva)
