Striking French entertainment industry technicians staged street protests, interrupted news broadcasts and halted two TV shoots Friday in protest over government plans to revamp their unemployment benefits.
Hundreds of technicians were joined by a handful of actors
and musicians as they demonstrated outside the offices of the Higher Employment Council, which met Friday to consider tightening up the benefit system (HR 7/28). A demonstration was also staged outside the headquarters of France Televisions.
The lunchtime news bulletin on pubcaster France 3 was broadcast without an anchor because of the strike action. Sister channel France 2 also had some of its live sports coverage interrupted.
Shooting was temporarily halted on two telefilms and protesters in Marseilles halted a casting session for the reality show "Popstars" for commercial station M6.
