ABC's "World News Tonight" won the nightly news race last week by 200,000 viewers, its best performance since May 12, 2001, though NBC's "Nightly News" still led among adults 25-54.
"Nightly News" suffered its lowest viewer total since the week of Aug. 13, 2001, and
its worst showing among adults since the week of July 9, 2001.
For the week ending June 21, "World News Tonight" drew 8.6 million viewers, up 4% from a year ago and 2% from the previous week, according to Nielsen Media Research data. With 8.4 million viewers, "Nightly News" dropped 1% from a year ago and 6% from two weeks ago. CBS' "Evening News" was third with 7.4 million viewers, dropping 3% from the same week in 2001 and flat from last year.
