Juan Carlos Urdaneta has been promoted to president of Turner Broadcasting System Latin America Inc. Previously senior vp, Urdaneta fills the position vacated by David Levy, who has moved up, along with Andy Bird, to co-president of TBS International.
Urdaneta's new
duties include oversight of advertising, distribution and marketing of Turner's news and entertainment networks in the region.
The specific Turner products Urdaneta is responsible for are Cartoon Networks Latin America and TNT Latin America as well as the corresponding Web sites. He also now manages CNN en Espanol, CNN, CNNfn and CNN/Sports Illustrated and oversees the staff in Turner offices in Atlanta, Miami, Mexico, Brazil and Argentina.
The appointment, announced by Levy, puts Urdaneta in charge of one of Turner's most important regions, representing about 30% of international revenue for the company, Levy said. "Latin America is the fastest-growing region anywhere in the world for Turner Broadcasting," he said.
After joining TBS Latin America in 1994 from Johnson & Johnson, Urdaneta was promoted to regional vp for northern Latin America sales in 1996 and then became regional senior vp sales and marketing. In 1999, he was named senior vp at TBS Latin America, which is a division of Turner Broadcasting System Inc., a subsidiary of Time Warner.
