In the second of a two-part report, The Hollywood Reporter examines the boxoffice and production schedules of the top 15 female stars, as rated in THR's annual Star Power survey.
We also look at four up-and-coming "stars of summer": Adam Sandler (rated No. 30 overall
in the survey), Mike Myers, Catherine Zeta-Jones (No. 120) and Brendan Fraser (No. 128). In addition, the accompanying charts include a breakdown of each star's average opening weekend at the boxoffice.
Star Power is an annual global survey of film executives in key territories. The survey, among other things, rates a star's ability to attract financing, ensure worldwide distribution and open a film to significant weekend boxoffice. The 1999 survey results were released in June (HR 6/15).
Among the major women, only Julia Roberts ranked in the top 15 stars overall. She landed at No. 8.
The other top 15 female stars' overall global rankings range from Meg Ryan (No. 2 among actresses, No. 16 overall) to Helen Hunt (No. 15 among women, No. 55 overall).
Among the other top female stars, Jodie Foster ranked No. 18 overall, Sandra Bullock No. 20, Gwyneth Paltrow No. 21, Cameron Diaz No. 22, Michelle Pfeiffer No. 27, Nicole Kidman No. 39, Barbra Streisand No. 41, Winona Ryder No. 43, Meryl Streep No. 44, Sharon Stone No. 45, Drew Barrymore No. 50 and Demi Moore No. 51.
In defining the stars' $100 million hits, the charts did not include either animated hits or films where the actor or actress had only a minor role. Also, films that have wrapped -- but have not yet been released -- are not included.
