Universal Studios has promoted Karen Randall to executive vp and general counsel, it was announced Wednesday by Universal Studios president Ron Meyer.
Randall served as senior vp and general counsel of the studio. She will continue to oversee all legal operations, as
well as add labor relations and government affairs to her responsibilities.
Since joining Universal Studios in 1996, Randall helped orchestrate a number of international transactions for the studio, including the extension of United International Pictures' charter, the reorganization of the legal functions of its unit, Universal Pictures International, and the restructuring of Universal's video distribution operation.
Randall also serves on the board of directors of Loews Cineplex Entertainment Corp. and UIP and is Universal's liaison to the MPAA, where she is a member of the board of directors and the special policy group.
Before joining Universal, Randall was the managing partner of the Los Angeles office of Katten Muchin Zavis, where her clients included MCA Inc., Spelling Entertainment, MGM and Earvin Magic Johnson. Before that, she was a partner at Wyman Bautzer Kuchel & Silbert.
