CBS will attempt to boost its summer viewership with original episodes of "Thanks," a new comedy from Touchstone TV.

The eye ordered six episodes of the offbeat comedy from Phoef Sutton ("Cheers") and Mark Legan ("Grace Under Fire"). The series focuses on pilgrims

adapting to life in the New World and stars Tim Dutton, Cloris Leachman, Kirsten Nelson, Erika Christensen, Amy Centner, Andrew Ducote and Jim Rash. "Thanks," one of eight shows Touchstone TV now has on the fall schedule, is expected to bow in August.

The eye hasn't aired an original entertainment series in the summer since 1993, when then-CBS toppers Jeff Sagansky and Peter Tortorici attempted to launch shows in August to avoid the fall rush. The only other recent summer original was in 1997, when CBS launched the new "Coast to Coast."

Original segments of "60 Minutes" and "60 Minutes II" will continue to air through the summer, while a new show called "48 Hour Monday Mysteries" -- updates of previous "48 Hour" stories -- will air at 10 p.m. Mondays.
