Longtime Columbia Records executive and top musician Randy Jackson will be named senior vp A&R/staff producer at MCA Records. The appointment will be announced by week's end.
Jackson, who will report directly to MCA Records president Jay Boberg, will be responsible
for seeking, signing and developing new artists for the label as well as producing key projects.
He will be based at MCA Records' Universal City headquarters.
"I have a great respect for Jay Boberg, Steve Corbin and the whole team, and I'm looking forward to signing and developing some great new artists as well as helping to make MCA the best company possible," Jackson said.
Jackson served for eight years as vp A&R and staff producer at Columbia Records. He worked with Mariah Carey, Dionne Farris, Trina and Tamara, Nancy Wilson and others.
Jackson has also become one of the top studio musicians working today, having played bass for such artists as Carey, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Frankie Beverly & Maze, Jean Luc Ponty, Journey, Madonna, Herbie Hancock, Jon Bon Jovi, Billy Cobham and John Fogerty. The musician/executive has been involved in more than 700 records and is now recording with Don Henley.
