'x-files' Ready For L.a. Move, Carter Says

Chris Carter, creator-producer of "The X-Files," told his cast and crew Friday night that the highly rated Fox series would be leaving British Columbia for Hollywood next season.

The move had been widely expected; stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson both live

in Los Angeles. Duchovny had been vocal in wanting the show to move to his home turf.

The show's publicist, Stephen Melnik, confirmed the move and said an announcement would be made later this week.

"It's difficult to be away from your family for that long," said Tom Adair, business representative for "The X-Files" production union. "That's the only reason that would make any sense -- not economic sense, it's emotional sense."
