Experts provide support, advice and more during this month's "Seeing, Sharing, Supporting"

PHOENIX -- MommyTalk.com, a free, international social networking website for parents, will bring domestic violence to the forefront of member's minds this month. The site's popular "Seeing, Sharing,

Supporting" monthly awareness program focuses on the tough, real-life issues that women deal with, providing advice and support from a variety of experts during the month through articles, forums and more.

"Many social online networking sites are afraid to talk about the sensitive stuff," said Travis Moss, CEO and president of MommyTalk.com. "In this day and age of PC language and ad driven sites, many organizations avoid any content that could be offensive, disheartening, or otherwise threatening to its user base. But, MommyTalk.com has taken a stand to tackle these issues head on, and we've had only positive feedback from our members."

Moss says it's imperative that companies take the time to talk about the issues that most affect their target audience.

Domestic violence or abuse is defined as abuse between spouses or intimate partners, when one person in the relationship tries to control the other person with feat, intimidation, threats or physical violence. Rates of assaults and domestic violence have been observed to increase during hot weather. These rises, at least in part, may be related to rises in alcohol consumption during high temperatures, as alcohol intoxication increases a person's likelihood of being both a perpetrator and victim of aggression and violence.

According to www.endabuse.org, at least one in every three women around the world has been beaten, coerced into sec or otherwise abused during her lifetime. Some other important statistics include:

* Nearly one-third of American women report being physically or sexually abused by a husband or boyfriend at some point in their lives.

* Nearly 25 percent of American women report being raped and/or physically assaulted by a current or former spouse, cohabitating partner, or date at some time in their lifetime.

* As many as 324,000 women each year experience intimate partner violence during their pregnancy.

"This is a serious topic, and we hope that are members can share stories with each other to help bring the issue to the table," said Moss. "The experts that will share this month on the site will be able to provide some amazing insight into all forms of domestic violence."
