"This feedback from consumers underscores the value of credit insurance and other debt protection products that assure loan repayment in the event of death, disability, involuntary unemployment or loss or damage to property, and it reinforces the value of our industry in the insurance and lending marketplaces," said Burfeind.
Here is a sampling of some consumer comments:
Billie J. of Sherwood, Tennessee wrote, "It is important to have disability insurance. I am thankful that the coverage was available. I had no idea that my life was about to change. . . If not for the coverage, I would have lost my home."
David Z. of New Lenox, Illinois who elected involuntary unemployment coverage said, "It is helping me keep current on my mortgage payments... The Unemployment Insurance coverage has been a lifesaver at a time in my life when finding good employment is difficult, when I'm so close to retirement."
In recent years some lenders have made non-insurance debt protection products available to consumers in connection with loans. Similar to credit insurance, these products provide opportunity for a more innovative benefit structure. Consumers electing debt protection products also testify to the benefits.
Mark H. of Atchison, Kansas said, "It's hard to imagine what I would have lost if I hadn't had the Payment [Waiver] policy, I assume I would not be living in my home which I truly love."
Mary B. of Morristown, Tennessee said, "I cannot express my gratitude to the bank for the attention they gave to my Payment Waiver Program. It was a Godsend, and I will forever be grateful to all of you."
Burfeind noted, "Whether traditional credit insurance or an innovative debt protection program, it's clear from what consumers are telling us that these products provide real financial benefits to people in distress."
