Top Brazilian Law Firm TozziniFreire A Key Organizer
DALLAS -- The growing connection between the U.S. and Brazil energy industries, and the challenges of doing business in Brazil will be underscored in an international conference scheduled at the Center for American and International
To help focus and organize the conference, The Center turned to Advisory Board member TozziniFreire Advogados, a prominent (440 lawyers) firm in Brazil. TozziniFreire is a recognized thought leader on fossil and emerging energy issues. Firm co-founder Jose Luis Freire is a co-chair of the conference.
At the conference, internationally known experts will discuss topics as varied as The Oil & Gas Market in Brazil, The Ethanol Revolution and a Practical Guide to doing Business in Brazil.
In 2006, Brazil achieved energy independence, both through the expanded use of ethanol in transportation and the discovery of new oil and gas reserves. American political and business leaders have taken note, increasing interest in U.S. companies wanting to unlock the challenges of doing business in the developing country. For international companies, deep legal expertise has proven invaluable to navigate Brazil's unique cultural and regulatory environment.
Brazilian Ethanol Production
Since President Bush in 2006 emphasized ethanol as a possible solution to U.S. oil dependence, Brazil's ethanol industry has seen a surge in international interest. Last year, the U.S. imported more than 1.5 billion gallons of surgarcane-based Brazilian ethanol, which can be produced more economically than that in the U.S. In Brazil, ethanol has replaced 40% of the country's vehicle gasoline consumption.
Oil & Gas in Brazil
Brazil has been on a fast track since 1997, when government-owned oil company Petrobras lost its monopoly, prompting exploration bid rounds that have drawn attention from around the globe. Interest in Brazil has also increased because of growing uncertainty of exports from neighbors such as Venezuela.
