Malaysian Symposium, Regional Conferences Underscore Need for Professional, Technical Resources for IT Architects

AUSTIN, Texas -- The International Association of Software Architects (IASA), a 5,000-member association focused on defining and supporting the professional duties of IT architects, has taken a significant step forward in worldwide growth and expansion, establishing its first chapter in Sweden. Some 200 people attended the association's Stockholm gathering, outlining objectives and ascertaining local requirements for the group.

IASA also announced its 2007 Architect Symposium, to be held April 24-27 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Expected to be the largest Southeast Asia event that addresses the pressing business, technical, and career interests of architects and architecture-minded leaders of today, the conference includes more than 30 seminars and four specialty tracks for architects of all levels and sub-disciplines.

The symposium will be followed later this year by a series of regional conferences in the U.S. Information on the conference, the architect skillset, and on IASA membership is available at http://www.iasahome.org.

IASA founder and President Paul Preiss said that the Stockholm meeting probably represented the largest gathering of IT architects ever to meet in Sweden. The 200 attendees represented an estimated 20% of all architects in the Stockholm region, and perhaps as many as 15% of all architects in the country. Within a few days of the March kickoff meeting, IASA membership in Sweden doubled to 120.

"New members always bring energy and perspective to any organization, and IASA is proud of its growth in Scandinavia and worldwide," said Preiss. "This type of attention and growth only serve to highlight the importance of IT architects in organizations of all sizes and callings."

Attendees at the Stockholm meeting commented on the scarcity of both professional and technical literature on the IT architecture, welcoming IASA's recently announced industry-first IT architecture skills library. "Knowing that other professionals share problems is a principal value of international organizations like IAS," Preiss added.

IASA is a vendor agnostic, non-profit association focused on defining and supporting the professional duties of IT architects.
