New Digital Version of The Times Offers Readers Greater Flexibility and Mobility; Home-Delivery Subscribers to Receive Times Reader at No Additional Cost
NEW YORK -- The New York Times announced today that, beginning March 27, The Times will release Times Reader as a subscription product. Times
Times Reader is priced annually at $165 or monthly at $14.95, but is available to home-delivery subscribers at no additional cost. Subscriptions include access to TimesSelect and Premium Crosswords as well as a range of Times Reader tools and features, including a seven-day archive, the ability to annotate articles, a Topic Explorer and News in Pictures. New subscribers to Times Reader will be offered a 30-day free trial period upon registration.

The text in Times Reader is displayed in a format to fit the size and layout of any computer screen and enables readers to customize the display according to personal preferences, such as font size. Times Reader allows mobile users, such as business travelers or commuters, to synchronize their laptops, tablet PCs or ultra-mobile computing devices before getting on an airplane or a train and have available the latest New York Times content to read when it is most convenient.
Times Reader features include:
* News in Pictures: Allows consumers to navigate the day's news through photography.
* Topic Explorer: Built into the search feature, the Topic Explorer allows readers to see the relationships between the topics covered in The Times.
* Tools: In addition to saving and printing articles, readers can also highlight and annotate passages within the text of articles.
* Article Index: At a glance, readers can check to see how much of the paper they have read and easily navigate to the pieces they have missed.
* Seven-day archive: A locally stored archive allows readers to view articles from the last seven days and read them even when offline.
Times Reader is based on Windows Presentation Foundation, Microsoft's advanced display technology in Windows Vista. A version for Macintosh users is also planned.
