Volvo City of Angels Fun Ride Hosts Blood Drive for Childrens Hospital Los Angeles.

First Appearance of the "Maxmobile" Bloodmobile

LOS ANGELES -- This year's Volvo City of Angels Fun Ride is giving even more back to the community. In addition to helping the Childrens Hospital Los Angeles bloodmobile fund, the Fun Ride is hosting the bloodmobile and a blood drive for

Childrens Hospital at the Los Angeles Police Academy parade grounds from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 29. To make an appointment, call the Childrens Hospital Los Angeles Blood Donor Center at 323-669-2441.

After the Fun Ride, a BBQ lunch will be available for Fun Ride cyclists, their family members, friends and members of the public donating blood to support Los Angeles' smallest angels. All attendees are welcome to enjoy the festivities, which include the BBQ lunch, music, a huge raffle and an Expo after the cyclists return from the ride.

Last year's blood drive at the Los Angeles Police Academy was a huge success. "This year we want to help Childrens Hospital save even more lives by having their largest blood drive ever," said Peter Heuman, Fun Ride event producer. "Our goal is to collect 100 units of blood, which would save hundreds of children's lives."

Now in its tenth year, the 2007 Volvo City of Angels Fun Ride, which highlights over 65 cultural, historic and scenic sights of Los Angeles, features two new and improved ride options: a 35-mile recreational route and a faster-paced 50-mile route for more advanced riders. Both rides start and finish at the Los Angeles Police Academy in Elysian Park. Sponsored by Volvo, this annual tour is designed for riders with basic cycling skills and moderate fitness levels and is rated "moderate to easy" by the Bicycle Ride Directors Association of America. Both rides will offer a rolling LAPD traffic closure.

The 2007 Volvo City of Angels Fun Ride, will help "the city's littlest angels" by donating the ride's profits to help the Childrens Hospital Los Angeles Bloodmobile Fund. Last year's ride attracted more than 1,000 cyclists. To date, thanks in large part to Volvo taking on the charity drive as a cause of its own, more than $200,000 was raised, allowing Childrens Hospital to purchase the new bloodmobile this year for the benefit of the children of Los Angeles. The new bloodmobile is named the "Maxmobile," to honor of young Max Buelow, who died last year after a long struggle with bone cancer.

The Volvo City of Angels Fun Ride celebrates the outdoor lifestyle that IS Southern California.
