PRINCETON, N.J. -- Louis N. Magazzu, Special Counsel in the Firm's Real Estate and Public Finance departments, was sworn in Monday, January 29, 2007 as President of the New Jersey Association of Counties (NJAC), a position he will hold for one year. NJAC is an advocacy group for county governments and their taxpayers that promotes federal and state legislative initiatives in support of county interests. The organization serves New Jersey's 21 counties and aids county officials in serving their constituencies. The NJAC Board is comprised of 26 members, 21 of them being freeholders representing each county.
"This is a well deserved honor and accomplishment for Lou," David S. Antzis said, Managing Partner of Saul Ewing. "We are proud that he is in this position to advance the best interests of New Jersey's county governments."
"It is my goal to continue our advocacy work on behalf of county government, and to fulfill last year's agenda, while establishing new goals for NJAC that will ultimately enhance the state of New Jersey's local and municipal government services, as well as the state's public education system," Mr. Magazzu said.
Mr. Magazzu maintains a general business law practice, with an emphasis on real estate, zoning and planning matters and municipal government law. He has handled numerous mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and financing matters, and has appeared before many local boards and commissions.
Mr. Magazzu has served as an elected Freeholder for Cumberland County Board of Chosen Freeholders since 1997. He also served as Director of the Board in 2000.
In addition to his recognition as one of the "100 New Democrats to Watch" by the National Democratic Leadership Council, Mr. Magazzu has been honored by various community and civic associations, including being a chosen recipient of the County Leadership Award given by the New Jersey Conference of Mayors.
Mr. Magazzu received his B.A. from the University of Maryland and earned his J.D. degree from Villanova University School of Law.
