David Duitch, currently vp of news for WFAA-TV, Belo's ABC affiliate in Dallas, is moving to the nation's capital in January as vp of the company's Washington, D.C. news bureau, the company announced Monday.

In his new position, Duitch will oversee Belo's Washington, D.C. news bureau which opened in 1997 to provide national news coverage to the company's newspapers, TV stations, cable channels and online services.

He replaces George Rodrigue, who in April was named vp and managing editor of Belo's The Dallas Morning News.

"David is an outstanding journlist who has led our flagship television newsroom to some of its best work," said Jack Sander, president of media operations for Belo, to whom Duitch will report.

A Belo news veteran since 1994, Duitch has served in the newsrooms of several company properties. Under his leadership, his newsrooms have won numerous awards for journalistic excellence such as a duPont-Columbia Award, a Peabody Award, national and regional Edward R. Murrow Awards, and Associated Press awards.
