The Orange County (Calif.) Register is the latest paper to announce job cuts.
"Along with almost every other metropolitan newspaper, the Orange County Register has suffered declines in advertising revenues in recent months," N. Christian Anderson, publisher of the Register, said in a statement. "Unfortunately, we don't see a quick turnaround in the loss of this advertising in key categories. We are diversifying our product portfolio and showing some growth, but is not enough to overcome the revenue shortfalls."
Anderson told E&P this afternoon the paper is offering a severance plan to employees throughout many departments. He declined to be specific but added it will not include press operations.
The severance plan is based on the employee's length of service and includes a bonus and Cobra coverage.
The deadline for applications is Oct. 16.
