Another cartoonist is paying tribute to "Frank & Ernest" creator Bob Thaves, who died Aug. 1 at the age of 81.

In today's "Candorville" comic, Darrin Bell shows Frank and Ernest

as angels hovering near two homeless men. Frank says: "Mind if we share your alley? Ernie's allergic to clouds." The strip, syndicated by the Washington Post Writers Group, ends with an "R.I.P." note for Thaves.

"'Frank & Ernest' was one of the first strips I remember ever reading, and it was an inspiration to me," Bell told E&P. "Bob Thaves was one of the people I'd always hoped to meet, but never did."

E&P previously reported that "Prickly City" creator Scott Stantis of Universal Press Syndicate will pay tribute to Thaves in his Sept. 10 comic.

"Frank & Ernest," which is being continued by Thaves' son Tom, is syndicated by Newspaper Enterprise Association.
