Atex, Reading and Latimer, England, wil supply Israel's Yedioth Ahronoth with a large, Web-enabled Atex Cross Media editorial solution supporting off-the-shelf software, including Adobe's newly announced InDesign/InCopy for the Middle Eastern market.

Designed around

Atex's multimedia database technology, the system will be used at any one time by several hundred journalists and production stafers, and will support Yedioth's entire print and online operations.

The Atex solution will integrate with Agfa Arkitex and computer-to-plate systems, an Olive archive, and FotoWare image archive, as well as a link to Yedioth's own advertising system.

Multimedia journalists will have the option to use Atex's Web client software providing an Internet or intranet multi-content delivery channel, Microsoft Word, or Adobe InCopy for story creation, with Adobe InDesign used by designers/editors to create pages.

All data is held in an Oracle 10g relational database capable of holding text, graphics, video and sound. The Atex solution also can hold different news files within a "container" for supplying appropriate linked content to the various news operations, while Web-based Page and Deadline Trackers will provide management of on-time and online page delivery to the two Yedioth full-color printing plants.

For many of the approximately one million recent immigrants from the former Soviet Union who do not read Hebrew, Yedioth publishes Vesti, a daily Russian-language newspaper, as well as a weekend magazine.

Besides its dailies, Yedioth Ahronoth Media group also owns and publishes 18 weekly papers at several editorial sites in the country's main towns. These weeklies are often distributed free with Yedioth Ahronoth's weekend edition.

Yedioth also owns several magazine companies and operates several Web-sites.
