Clifton E. "Cliff" Clements is the new editor and publisher of The Baytown (Texas) Sun.

Clements, 61, has served for the past seven years as editor and publisher of The Sand Mountain Reporter in Albertville, Ala. The Reporter and the Sun are both owned by Houston-based Southern Newspapers Inc.

A Childress bative, Clements began his newspaper career at the Lubbock (Texas) Avalanche-Journal. In 1972 he went to work for the Houston Chronicle, where for five years he served as zone advertising manager and shopping center advertising manager.

He then joined the Texas Daily Newspaper Association, where he was appointed sales and promotions manager. After seven years with newspaper and direct marketing company Harte-Hanks Inc. in San Angelo, Clements was named classified advertising manager at The Houston Post in 1987. He held that post until 1995, when he joined Southern Newspapers and became classified advertising manager of The Galveston County Daily News.

Clements succeeds Wanda Garner Cash.
