Letters, we get letters, we gets lots and lot of letters. The problem is, the "letters" section at this Web site is pretty much buried up there in the site index (this will probably come as a surprise to most of you reading this). When we launch our new blog in September, publishing a lot of feedback
will no longer be any problem. Until then, or until we are able to set up a more prominent letters feature right here on the home page, we will carry a daily entry in this spot, called, variously, "MONDAY's LETTERS," "TUESDAY's LETTERS" and so. We will add letters as they come in, at the top, so check back every few hours, if you wish, for the latest update. Or, blog-like, you can
respond to a letter you find here. Here's a start for Friday, most recent first, with many more to come.

You have been using the term "plamegate" to refer to the case of the outing of an undercover CIA agent by members of the Bush regime. I prefer the term "treasongate" for this topic, as I feel it is more accurate.

One Internet savvy reader tipped us off to an eBay ad currently offering a piece of toast with Rove's face on it. We checked it out and found the eBay item
here. Current bid, as of July 22, 11:18 AM ET: $32.50.

Dear Sir or staff member(s),
Why is it that during my tour of duty in the USMC, 1963 - 1969, and while in boot camp it was explained to us numerous times, that should we be deployed to war, authorized by Congress and our president, that if I, or anyone, should fall asleep while on guard duty, one could be shot on site! And yet, this Mr. Rove and possibly others, high up in this administration, give away a name or names(?) of those pulling duty within the CIA, which could save other Marines and soldiers lives, let alone citizens, wind up spiting in our faces?
Regards,
Dennis ElyLos Gatos, Ca.

Why Few Graphic Images from Iraq Make it to U.S. Papers,
Angela Baldelt believes the main reason the media shies away from such photos is because "people don't want to face up to the truth.
"They like to keep a 'clean' image of the US...Which is a joke....They turn away from reality and have since the war started.
...
"The papers don't want to print ugly photos of nasty war, when the people would not buy that paper...Its all about money and not facing reality."
Baldelt ended her thoughts with a couple of quotes from famous citizens of the past:
The pioneers of a warless world are the youth that refuse military service. --
Albert EinsteinHow you can win the population for war: At first, the statesman will invent cheap lying, that impute the guilt of the attacked nation, and each person will be happy over this deceit, that calm the conscience. It will study it detailed and refuse to test arguments of the other opinion. So he will convince step for step even therefrom that the war is just and thank God, that he, after this process of grotesque even deceit, can sleep better. --

Why doesn't the press corp start asking questions about the Downing Street Memos and about the false claims of WMD and terrorism made prior to the war?
