Voting members of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) have elected 15 to the union's national board of directors, while AFTRA/New York voters have selected nine for their local board.
Valid ballots totaled 2,597 to fill the board positions, all of which are for three-year terms.
New national board members include actors Elaine LeGaro, who serves as AFTRA/NY's current president, Roberta Reardon, Harry Peerce, Lynne MacLaren, Anne Carney, and Larry Marx.
Others chosen for the national board to represent specific sectors of the union are announcers L.J. Ganser and Fred Facey; disc jockey Dan Ingram; newsperson Lee Spinelli; singers Arlene Martell, Catherine Russell, and Roger Crouthamel; specialty actor Alan Abel; and sportscaster Don Gould.
Elected to the local board in the actor category are Peerce, Joyce Reehling, Anne Bobby, Mike Baker, Lainie Cooke, Martha Greenhouse, and Joyce Korbin. The last actor seat saw Marx and Mary Ann Conk tie. Following its constitution, the local board will resolve the tie at its next meeting, according to an AFTRA press release.
Others elected to the local board are deejay Ingram, singer Martell, and sportscaster Gould.
The AFTRA national board is the union's highest governing body with the sole exception of the biennial convention, which will next convene in 2001. The national board consists of 120 members; 33 of them are selected by AFTRA/NY voters. The local AFTRA board numbers 42.
AFTRA mailed ballots to members whose dues were paid up by May 18. The ballots had to be returned by June 8.
