That dazzling "comet of hilarity" is on its way back to the Big Apple, as the fourth annual
Underground Comedy Festival will light up venues across all five boroughs of New York City in mid-September.
This year the festival
will be headlined by a variety of television performers and writers: Rick Overton, who won an Emmy for head writer on HBO's
The Dennis Miller Show; Bonne McFarlene, from NCB's
Last Comic Standing; and Eddie Brill, of
Late Show with David Letterman fame.
But the Underground's roster doesn't just include the famous and established. The city's largest festival devoted to comedy, more than 200 comedy events are scheduled in 75 locations all over the city.
More than 400 professional, amateur, and rising-star performers are set to participate.
Highlights of this year's program include Greek Comedy Live,
Nice Jewish Girls Gone Bad, and
George Bush Drove Me to Crack.
The schedule will also include stand-up showcases and comedy writing workshops. Many events are free and will take place in all the major comedy clubs, plus local libraries, hospitals, and even homeless shelters.
The festival will be held Sept. 8-16.
Many proceeds will be donated to various charities.
