DestiNY USA To Break Ground

Construction is set to begin next spring on DestiNY USA, a $1.3 billion retail and entertainment destination in Syracuse, N.Y. The five-million-square-foot facility will house a 90,000-square-foot saltwater aquarium, a 500,000-square-foot multi-field indoor sport and recreation complex, a 65-acre, glass-enclosed park, and a 1,500-foot long replica of the Erie Canal. Also included in the project will be 400 retail shops, restaurants and 2,000-plus hotel rooms. The five-story atrium area will be home to the $25 million International Tourism and Exposition Center. Pyramid Cos., the developer, expects the facility to attract 40 million visitors a year. — T.O.
